Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2024: What You Need to Know

October 2024 marks 21 years of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, led by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the National Cybersecurity Alliance. This year’s theme, “Secure Our World,” reminds everyone how important it is to use safe online habits to protect against new cyber threats. With 95% of cyber incidents involving human error, according to the 2024 Cost of a Data Breach Report published by IBM, it’s clear that improving our actions online can significantly reduce the risk of attacks. Simple steps like using strong passwords and spotting phishing attempts can make a big difference in keeping us safe.

CISA Director Jen Easterly said, “This year’s theme is more than words. It’s a way to make our online world safer.” Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2024 focuses on making these safety tips easy for everyone to understand and use, helping people protect their personal and work information online. ThriveDX supports this initiative by offering programs that train new cybersecurity professionals, helping to fill the growing need for experts who can keep our digital world secure.

Secure Our World: Four Essential Cybersecurity Practices for 2024

The campaign urges everyone to take responsibility for securing their digital environments by following four essential steps: strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, phishing awareness, and ensuring updated software. Effective cybersecurity begins with simple, everyday habits, empowering users to protect themselves and contribute to a more secure global digital ecosystem.

In the episode of the Net Impact podcast below, produced by ThriveDX, host Fred Menachem interviewed Assistant State Attorney Stewart Hedrick, Chief of the Cybercrime Unit at the Miami-Dade County State Attorney’s Office. Stewart discussed his unconventional journey to becoming a top cybercrime prosecutor and details his efforts to track digital criminals and bring them to justice. From an insider’s perspective on the challenges facing law enforcement today, the episode dives into real-world cases, exploring innovative strategies to gather digital evidence and protect victims.
